RU-58841 (PSK-3841) is a non-steroidal anti-androgen compound originally developed by Roussel Uclaf (now Sanofi) for topical treatment of androgen-dependent conditions. It acts as a competitive antagonist at the androgen receptor, blocking the binding of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and testosterone at the follicular level. In preclinical studies, topical application of RU-58841 prevented hair follicle miniaturization and promoted hair regrowth in androgen-dependent alopecia models without significant systemic absorption or hormonal disruption. Its specificity for local androgen receptor blockade, combined with rapid skin metabolism, provides a favorable profile for topical research applications in dermatology, hair biology, and androgen receptor pharmacology.
